In an 8-hour workday, the average employee is productive for less than 3 hours, the rest is lost to distraction and burnout.
To fix this, companies tend to give incentives, increase salaries, or threaten their employees, but none of these are an effective solution alone.
Insufficient or smooth lighting work against the human circadian rhythm. It activates rest mode instead of work mode, and cause headaches.
Random open spaces or private rooms create noise and isolation and serve as a barrier to teamwork, communication, and focus work.
Every role, gender, and disability are being treated the same way which is creating discomfort, and inability to work at their best.
COVID-19 gave employees a taste of remote work and, for many, it was the first time they experienced real freedom.
They controlled when they worked, where they worked, the setup that suited them best, and when to rest. The dream job, right?
So how could anyone, especially Gen Z, give all that up and return to the office?
Or, that’s what we thought.

Personalized setup
More quiet space to focus
Access to rest easily
More work-life balance
More privacy
Fast meetings and collaborations
Various Desk Setups (CHOICES)
Focus Boothes and closed rooms
Nap Pods
Ping Pong table, game courts, gym
Inclusive and adaptive spaces
Strategic open spaces for teamwork
Remote workers, especially Gen Z, have full control over how and where they work, except one thing.
Home offices are comfortable, but they’re isolating. There’s no real human connection, and online calls can’t fully replace it.
Remote workers are missing…
Where the discussion is different and the energy in the room cannot be compared to cold online calls.
The ability to work willingly with other co-workers is fun, it makes work easier and boosts creativity.
These small interactions are what keep the workplace alive and energizing and reduces stress.
These activities are fun but fuel a sense of belonging, and friendliness among employees and give work more purpose.
After COVID, Tech giants started playing a totally new different game by completely redesigning their workplaces and work models.
Instead of traditional desk farms, LinkedIn’s offices now include collaboration hubs, social spaces, and areas that encourage connection and creativity to make coming into the office worthwhile for younger talent.
Samsung went the extra mile in designing the ideal workplace by creating collaborative work zones, relaxation areas, informal lounges, and diverse playful corners so employees can recharge and connect.
Adobe’s workplace strategy blends functional hybrid work spaces with amenities that support lifestyle and community by featuring onsite cafés with free meals, lounges, and play areas with table tennis and other games.
Amazon has reimagined parts of its corporate environments to be more employee-oriented, adding quiet rooms or “power nap” spaces, relaxed lounges, and social zones alongside collaborative meeting areas.
The same office and the same desk for all? It kills productivity and performance from the beginning. Every role has a different workflow and requires a different setup or multiple setups depending on the task. Here are two examples:
Reservoir Engineer vs. Drilling Engineer
Their work is heavy on modeling, analysis, and long concentration. They need a private or semi private office with balanced neutral lighting, a large desk and multi screen setup to support deep focus, calm neutral colors to reduce cognitive load, and close proximity to geoscience teams to enable fast collaboration and model validation.
Their work requires to make decisions fast, coordinate, and monitor the field. They need a semi-private office with brighter lighting and darker colors and strong acoustic, to reduce fatigue and keep them alerted. And it needs to be close to operations, HSE, and offshore teams for fast collaboration and decision-making around the clock.
Backend Software Engineer vs. Product Manager
Their work require deep, uninterrupted focus to build and maintain complex systems. A quiet, private or semi-private workspace with screen-friendly lighting, minimal visual distraction, and an ergonomic multi-monitor setup enables accuracy, reduces fatigue, and supports sustained high-performance work.

They work through constant collaboration, alignment, and decision-making across teams. A semi-open, accessible workspace with nearby meeting areas, whiteboards, and balanced people-friendly lighting encourages communication, visibility, and faster, more effective product decisions.
Women work differently than men, and people with disabilities bring immense potential when workplaces are designed to support them.
Here’s how to create spaces where everyone can thrive naturally.
Women’s physiology requires warmer office temperatures than men’s. This should be considered during fit-out.
Workplace design should prioritize privacy, especially for women, parents, and people with disabilities.
Not every worker fits the average male standard. Different chairs, desks, and tools are needed for comfort.
Workplace design should allow wider circulation spaces to make movement and connection easier.

Case Study
Bechtel, the leading oil and gaz company, wanted to redesign their 1000 sq.m. Al Khobar office to elevate their brand expression and boost their employees performance.
So Arkid Works took care of their office transformation from design to furnishing to turn it into an employee-first workplace.
This image displays part of the new office design where you can see different setups in one space giving employees multiple choices on how and where they prefer to work based on the task at hand.
The closed area, the semi-closed area, the open space and the private offices with full view on the office to keep interaction alive.
